Toowoomba · Darling Downs
On the Downs the ground decides the day
Toowoomba and the Darling Downs are regular territory for us, which means the drivers already know the climb up the range and the way a black-soil farm track behaves after a storm. It does not mean every address is a tilt-tray and a smile. A unit into Rangeville is a suburban set-down. A unit beside a silo at Pittsworth is a conversation about ruts, gates and whether the header is parked where the truck needs to stand.

Downs stock, matched to the track
Toowoomba and Downs orders are filled from stock held for this country. We match the truck to the access and confirm the day when you order. We are not publishing a street you can open unannounced. The unit is checked before it is loaded, and the freight you hear is the one for your track.
Inside the city, East Toowoomba, Rangeville and the newer pockets around Westbrook (4350) are mostly household and trade jobs: renovations, a lockup for a sparky, overflow while a shed is rebuilt. Highfields (4352) adds acreage and a few steeper drives on the northern edge. Withcott (4352), on the climb itself, is where low loaders and tight cuttings start to matter. Say if your place is on the range road rather than on the plateau.
Grain season, and the rest of the year
Through harvest the phone changes. Oakey (4401), Pittsworth (4356) and Cambooya (4358) want secure storage for chemical, seed, small plant and the parts that otherwise walk off a farm shed. A dangerous-goods unit is the right tool when the product label says so. A plain box is the right tool for auger parts and a generator. Mixing those up to save money is how people end up non-compliant, and we would rather have that argument on the phone.
Outside harvest the same farms still want a container because it can sit at a set of yards, a bore or a paddock corner and move next season. That only works if the truck can reach the corner on the day. A nice pin on a map is useless if the last 400 metres is a black-soil wheel track. We will ask what it did the last time it rained, because the Downs answers that question honestly.
Town-block buyers in Drayton and Newtown are renovating Queenslanders and interwar houses, not running a header. Their constraint is a driveway shared with a neighbour and a power line across the front. Two different Downs, one range.
Cold nights, heat in the box, and a specialty that is usually unnecessary
Toowoomba winters bite and summer afternoons still cook a steel roof. Condensation inside a sealed box is the thing that ruins furniture and paperwork, not a dramatic leak from above. Pallets under the load, a vent if you are storing for months, and nothing damp packed in on the day it comes out of a wet shed. Grain dust on a farm box is a separate habit: sweep the roof so it does not hold moisture in the corrugations.
Every so often someone on the Downs asks for a side-opening or open-top unit because loading with a telehandler feels easier. Sometimes that is right — a parts store you are in and out of daily. Often a plain 20ft is the better buy and the specialty premium is wasted. The notebook piece Side-Openers, Open-Tops and Reefers: The Containers Most Yards Don't Talk About is the argument, including when we think you should ignore specialty stock entirely.
If you are unsure which way the doors should face, stand where you will actually walk from. On a Pittsworth farm that is usually toward the workshop, not toward the road you thought looked tidier in a photo.
Specialty only if you will use it every week
That article is blunt about side-openers and open-tops. Read it before you pay extra for a door configuration the farm will use twice a year.
Downs questions, mostly about ground and grades
Can I look at containers in a yard at Toowoomba before I buy?
Stock for the Downs is held for this country. No street is printed for a cold call. The truck is matched to your access and the day is confirmed when you order. Ask for photos of the actual unit if you want to see the doors and the floor.
Harvest is close and the track into the Oakey paddock is black soil. Will you still deliver to the yards?
If the track will carry the truck, yes. If it will not, we set the box at the firmest point you can use and you move gear from there. Tell us which, with a photo taken after rain, not on a dry Tuesday in August.
We store farm chemicals. Is a normal container enough?
Not if the product needs a bunded, ventilated dangerous-goods unit. Read the label and tell us the class. A cheaper general-purpose box is the wrong saving, and we will say so even if it loses the sale.

The address, what is going in, and whether the last rain left the track soft. We will match the truck and quote the freight with the box.
