Hemmant is a short run, and the gates are usually wide

What 'our own patch' does and does not mean

It means the run is short and the stock for this side of the river is treated as local. It does not mean a street address you can punch in and wander on a Saturday. The container for a Hemmant job is taken from that bayside holding and checked before it is loaded.

Because the distance is small, the thing that actually moves the price is the truck, not a long cartage leg. A tilt-tray into a factory apron at Hemmant (4174) is a different quote from a crane lift over a racking aisle in the same postcode. We lock the day when the order is placed, once we have seen how the truck gets from the street to the set-down.

Port, Gateway, and the yards between them

Transport operators, container parks and workshops cluster through Hemmant, Lytton (4178), Murarrie (4172) and Tingalpa (4173). A common ask is a second box for overflow when a contract has landed and the shed is already full of someone else's freight. The box sits on existing concrete, doors facing the aisle the forklift already uses.

Around the port itself the rules change. Some sites want an induction, a time slot and a hi-vis driver, and they will not accept a truck that 'will be there sometime in the morning'. Stacking comes up more here than in the suburbs, because the fence line is the fence line and the only direction left is up. Two units one on top of the other only works if the corner castings land on corner castings and the slab under them was meant to take the point load. The few residential streets, and the salt

Not every Hemmant enquiry is a factory. There are houses tucked against the industrial edge, and Wynnum (4178) and Manly (4179) are a few minutes away when a bayside household wants a box for a renovation. Those driveways are shorter, often shared with a boat trailer, and the air is salty enough that a chip in the paint is worth touching up before the wet season sits on it.

Wakerley (4154) acreage is the other nearby pattern: more room for the truck, softer ground after rain, and people who want the doors facing a shed they already use. Sleepers under the four corners matter on that ground. A container sitting in the grass will hold water against the bottom rail, and the doors go out of square long before the walls do.

Before anyone stacks on a bayside slab
